Our impact report: working together to get Milton Keynes cycling
From school Bike Buses to city-wide celebrations and campaigns for safer routes, our impact report shares what we’re achieving together across Milton Keynes.
It brings together our research, highlights from 2025 and the next steps towards a city where more people feel able and confident to travel by cycle.

Helping more people get cycling
Making cycling part of everyday life starts with practical support and opportunities to build confidence.
In 2025, we organised and supported the Bikeability Olympics involving 14 schools and 83 children, a weekly Bike Bus at Two Mile Ash with up to 50 children, and cycle training for women during the Mayor’s Festival of Cycling and through regular monthly sessions.
Bringing people together
Shared rides help people build confidence, make connections and enjoy their city.
Our Festival of Cycling brought more than 500 riders to 15 events, while Cycling Santas attracted over 220 riders. In September, workplace Love to Ride competitions involved 412 riders across 78 workplaces, recording 4,807 trips and 49,747 miles.
Building a stronger voice for change
Our alliance also brings people together to ask for the changes that make cycling easier and safer.
Cold Harbour schoolchildren met the Council’s Head of Traffic & Transport and secured a pledge for a School Street. Our Cycle Symposium attracted 100 delegates and secured a pledge from leaders of the three main political parties to work together to improve cycling infrastructure.
We also launched a Gender Pedal Gap taskforce to increase women’s cycling, including developing the Ride and Shine online women’s cycling network, which grew to more than 160 members.
What comes next?
Our vision is that, by 2030, 7% of journeys in Milton Keynes are made by cycle, with women making half of those journeys.
Our next priorities include increasing women’s cycling and securing further Council commitments to better cycling infrastructure.
